Check this out: Firebrand Collective throwing caution to the wind and bringing you this Firebrand Boss a week early! So much has been going down behind the scenes, you guys, and so many of our little traditions have been dropped. I It is so nice to get back on track with this series. I'm so excited to introduce you to July's Firebrand Boss! So, without further ado....
This month's Firebrand Boss is...(drumroll, please!)...Erin Zimmerman of Elephant Social! I met Erin, aka Mama Elephant....like, the day I was born. Ok, not really, but Erin is one of those people who's presence is so effortless that if feels as if she's always been there.
Erin is vivacious, curious about the world around her, and so. freaking. hilarious. From her Instagram feed to her Big O sessions, this lady fills the lives of those around her laughter and guidance from the heart.
What she does is so vital to each and every one of us as small business owners and creative entrepreneurs: she helps us find our message and tell it to the world. Be still, my heart!
Enjoy getting to know Erin and her amazing (and vital!) business, Elephant Social.
In one sentence, how would you describe your business?
Elephant Social specializes in guiding you to realize your genius, release your genius, and stand in your power to change the world.
Where were you when you started your business? What led to that moment of deciding "I'm going to take this idea to the next level"?
I started my business in the fall of 2015. I had a friend who was living his dream as an artist when he passed away suddenly. Elephant Social started as a social media management company as I was leaping out of my corporate job to move towards my dream work and carrying on my friend's memory. It wasn't until the summer of 2016 that I realized I was s storyteller, not a social media manager, while at my first in-person retreat. And it took me until May of 2017 to fully come into my own and bring my vision to life as I am becoming the visibility guide I always needed with the video and storytelling components I have always adored.
Of all the different paths your business could take, what's one place you can see your business in five years?
One place I can see my business in five years is having developed into a movement. I have already started a film project centered around female empowerment (called "empoWOMENt"), and I want to see that grow, not only into a feature-length film, but even bigger! I want to interview females of all ages all over the world, while also helping to guide their genius out of them! I see a book, a feature film, a website where even MORE clips are released, and even multiple female-driven art installations to feature it at! There will be scholarships and many ways for me to give back. As soon as the giving back piece was dreamt up, everything came together! My BIG goal is to have all of this, AND a production studio that I can donate space, equipment, and mentoring opportunities through for people who have big messages to share, but not necessarily the means.
What is your entrepreneurial superpower?
Listening to people and turning their fears, overwhelm, and confusion into an action plan toward their dreams!
What is next for you? Anything big on the horizon? Upcoming events or releases you want to pimp out?
I am about to release my mid-level package, which is REALLY exciting! Up until this point, I have had my amazing "Big O" Sessions, but then everything is personalized from there. And, I am keeping the personalized piece, but, sometimes, people don't know what they want! So, I am going to show them what they NEED!
In a world where people often showcase only their best moments how do you handle the comparison factor in either your business, life or both?
Being an identical twin, the comparison factor has been evident nearly every day of my life! I just remind myself that I'm here to collaborate with other women - even if they run businesses or have messaging similar to mine. These women are people I can support, collaborate with, and even mentor or be mentored by! Once we release (as much as possible...it bubbles to the surface sometimes) this notion that we must compete with one another, and instead band together, we can be so much more powerful. As a group AND as individuals!
Erin is the Visibility Guide + Visual Storyteller at Elephant Social. She works with small businesses and individuals to figure out how they want to release their message into the world, and - sometimes - WHAT that message might be! Most of the time, you can find her lifting heavy things at the gym, knitting baby blankets, or sitting in her home office at the oddest hours, because inspiration has no timeframe!
